About the Chef, Emilio Zucchero

Ristorante San Giorgio Lucano is pleased to introduce our chef, Emilio Zucchero. Emilio is from the town of San Giorgio Lucano, Italy. His inspiration to become a chef began with his mother, Rosa in Italy. Some of Emilio’s greatest dishes come from Rosa’s recipes. Emilio was born and raised in a beautiful mountain area with vineyards and farms, where fresh food was plentiful. San Giorgio Lucano is in Southern Italy on the border between the provinces of Calabria and Basilicata.

Emilio immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a young man. There, he began his career in the restaurant business. A master chef, Mario Di Salvo took notice of Emilio and offered apprenticeship in Italian and continental cuisine. Under Mario’s tutorial, Emilio cultivated a great passion for food and the skills and knowledge to create delicious gourmet dishes.
From Pittsburgh, Emilio moved to New York’s “Little Italy”, where for ten years, restaurant patrons enjoyed Emilio’s creations. The 1990’s brought Emilio to North County, where he has worked at Pasta Mia in Oceanside, Henry’s in Carlsbad, Sicilianos in Vista and Itrulli Trattoria in Encinitas.
His dream was to have his own restaurant and to name the restaurant for his home town, hence the name of our establishment “San Giorgio Lucano. We welcome you to experience the “cucina di Emilio”.
